This Tour Championship marked the beginning of a year long campaign to raise money for Stand Up for Cancer in memory of Roger Mitterling who was a tour director for 10 years
before passing away in January from this terrible disease. This weekend participants raised $1000 and the eGolf Amateur Tour is going to match that amount to jump start the
campaign for the 2010 season.

Jaspers' Record Round Wins Amateur Tour's Championship Flight; Female Golfer Takes A Flight Title
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Joe Jaspers of Charlotte fired a course-record 67 Sunday to win the Amateur Golf Tour's 2006 National Championship at Palmetto Dunes Resort.
Jaspers poured in seven birdies, including a 30-footer on his last hole, to finish the two-day event at 149 and take a three-shot victory over Chad Frank of Orlando. Jaspers' five-under-par round set the course record on the Robert Trent Jones course at Palmetto Dunes. It was his first-ever course record and the second time he's won the AGT's national title. In 2002, he took top honors in a playoff.
"That was probably the best competitive round of golf I've played in terms of hitting the ball well and putting well," said Jaspers. "I made a couple of birdies early and got things rolling a little bit. To play so well in the final round is very gratifying."
Frank, who shot 152, took second place in the Championship Flight on a scorecard playoff. Also at 152 were Curtlan Barrett of Tidewater, Va., and Michael Bailey of Charlotte.
Another milestone occurred in the A Flight, as 23-year-old Katja Dammann of Pinehurst became the first female champion in Tour history. Dammann fired a final-round 74 to finish at 155 and edge the Triad's Mike Meadows (156) by a shot. Rick Tomei (158) of Charlotte placed third.
Dammann, who took up golf four years ago after moving to Pinehurst from Germany, had a consistent round that included one birdie and pars on nine of her last 10 holes. There was also a hole-in-one in the A Flight. Hilton Head's Leonard Bracknell aced the 153-yard 15th hole on Palmetto Dunes' Hills course with a 7-iron.
The B Flight title was won by Ziggy Hathaway of Myrtle Beach. Hathaway shot 83-76--159, while Raleigh's Ken Gritton was second at 163.
A two-hole sudden death playoff decided the C Flight as Robert Kelly of the Upstate got the win over Orlando's Jeremy Langeneck Both tied at 174 in regulation. It was Kelly's first win this year.
In the D Flight, Stephan Phipps of the Tri-Cities tour in Tennessee captured first place. Phipps shot 174, while Abraham Moore of Western Piedmont, N.C., was second at 176.
Orlando won the team competition. Tidewater finished second and Charlotte and Upstate tied for third.
The AGT's National Championship featured a record field of 461 golfers competing on five courses. The tourney used all three courses at the host resort, Palmetto Dunes, as well as the Arthur Hills course at Palmetto Hall and the Robbers Row course at Port Royal Plantation.
